Abiola is an actress, writer, singer, and musical comedienne, making things her mum will always watch more than you.
In 2016, she was nominated for an OFFIE Award for BEST FEMALE PERFORMANCE for her role as Tisana in the world première of “Girls” by Theresa Ikoko.
She has performed her musical comedy at Angel Comedy Club (Crowley & Co. ‘s The Night), The Watermill Theatre, and The Prince of Wales Theatre (West End) for The Book of Mormon MAD Trust Cabaret.
In addition, Abiola produces videos of her sketches and musical comedy. Her first parody, The Sound of Music / Maria Von Black tells of her unrequited dreams to play the leading role in the film of the same name.
Her next video was a self-produced, directed and edited short film called The Danish Girl (inspired by the film’s title), but instead about the way a Danish pastry changes a girl’s life. The Danish Girl premièred at the 2016 Hackney Attic Film Festival. People laughed…kiiiinda.
Abiola has performed in leading roles on the West End Stage in both Mamma Mia! and The Book of Mormon; her career has taken her to various theatres and venues worldwide including Soho Theatre, Novello Theatre, The Royal Exchange, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Cork Opera House, Kilworth House Theatre, Hippodrome Casino, Birmingham Rep, The Queens Theatre, HighTide Festival, The Gate Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, Norwich Arts Centre, Amity Hall (New York City), and The Giant Egg (Beijing).
She was also a featured singer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Closing Handover Ceremony (blink and you might miss her/think she’s one of the other black girls…).
Abiola is currently writing her first solo-show, a musical sketch rom-dra-comedy, inspired both by her last relationship and the Chinese term “Sheng Nu” – literally translation: Leftover Woman – a term used to describe unmarried women in their late twenties (the neeeerve). She plans to take the show, and a suitcase of peanut butter, to a lot of places.
Abiola graduated from ArtsEd, London with a BA in Musical Theatre, after years of classical musical training. She has also studied and performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City.
